"THE WEST COAST LIFESTYLE FUSED WITH BRITISH ELEGANCE AND REFINEMENT "
_______________________________________________________________________________

The design of Western House draws upon the influences of American modernist
architects such as Frank LLoyd Wright, Richard Neutra and Craig Elwood whose work
epitomizes the Californian dream.

It is this effortless freedom and glamour, so defining of the West Coast lifestyle, which
we have fused with British elegance and refinement.

The horizontal roof planes are echoed by landscaped terraces paved in flame-textured Jura
limestone and by reflecting pools set in rough hewn local Purbeck stone which descend
through the site. Into one terrace, is set a twelve metre lap pool.

THE PERFECT SETTING FOR A MODERNIST HOUSE WITH A TRUE FEELING OF SECLUSION
_______________________________________________________________________________

The property is set in a conservation area, characterised by substantial houses dating
from the turn of the last century, only glimpsed through the pines and rhododendrons which
enclose their large plots. Nearby a wooded chine follows a stream down to the sea, which is
ten minutes walk from the house.

THE ENTRANCE LOBBY, TRAVERTINE LIMESTONE AND
BOOK - MATCHED WALNUT

The house is split over five levels and includes 5 bedrooms, open plan kitchen/ dining
/ family living area, drawing room, study, cinema, and studio suite, four car garaging
and utility rooms. The lower three floors knit into the twelve metre diagonal crossfall
of the 1.25 acre site.

Either side of the front door are projecting wings clad in unfilled travertine limestone.

Internal walnut joinery and panelling are set off against windows of bronze-anodised
aluminium and polished limestone floors.

ON SUMMER DAYS THE DOORS CAN BE THROWN OPEN ALLOWING INSIDE
AND OUTSIDE TO MERGE SEAMLESSLY, THE LIMESTONE TERRACES
BECOMING AN EXTENSION OF THE HOUSE AND ALLOWING COOL
AIR TO BREEZE THROUGH

Visor-like overhangs keep out the high summer sun whilst low winter sun is able to
flood in. On those cold winter evenings an open fire and opulent drapes transform
the space into a cosy retreat.
